Who are the American War Mothers?

For the past three years, Milwaukee Public Library staff members have been digitizing the World War One Military Portraits collection.  With approximately 32,000 items, including portraits, soldier index cards, and miscellaneous items, this is MPL’s largest digital collection to date.  This post will provide some background information about the American War Mothers and how the collection was formed.

Happy Birthday, George Orwell!

One of the authors whose classic works get thrust upon us during our school years, his name should be familiar to many. His work, especially Nineteen Eighty-Four and Animal Farm, have had a lasting impact on literature, culture, and society.

Learn how to research your family tree @ MPL!

Start investigating your family history at the Milwaukee Public Library. Once a month a Humanities librarian offers a brief introduction to library resources available for beginning genealogists. Upcoming dates will be Thursdays June 19th, July 17th, and August 21st from 12::00-1:00 p.m. at the Central Library in Conference Room 2A (Paul Gottfried Krikelas). This free presentation is open to the public. Reservations are not required.
