Happy Birthday, George Orwell!
While he's not around to celebrate (He'd be a staggering 111 years old, if he was), today is the birthday of author George Orwell. One of the authors whose classic works get thrust upon us during our school years, his name should be familiar to many. His work, especially Nineteen Eighty-Four and Animal Farm, have had a lasting impact on literature, culture, and society. Terms like 'Big Brother', 'thoughtcrime', and 'doublethink' all came out from Orwell's forward thinking in his novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. So if you've not taken a look into Orwell's work ever since they forced you to read about evil upright-walking pigs in middle school, do yourself a favor and check out one of Orwell's works today. For those of your who have read all of them already, why not revisit one, or check out one of the many books we have about the author himself (did you know that George Orwell isn't his real name)? Oh, and go ahead and have two slices of cake. No one (not even Big Brother) is watching.
