By Heather on Jan 16, 2015 5:23 PM

As part of the Wisconsin History Tour exhibit and programs taking place in Milwaukee this month, join Wisconsin Historical Society staff and other Wisconsin research experts for GENEALOGY DAY events at Central Library on Wednesday, January 21st!

10:00 a.m. - Practical Preservation for Your Family Treasures
Central Library, Meeting Room 1
presented by Robin Carlson, Society Conservator and Sara Andrews, Preservation Librarian
We will share pragmatic ways to preserve a variety of family treasures including the scrapbooks and digital photographs that you create now, as well as inherited family heirlooms or archives. Learn where to find a conservator to help.

12:00 p.m. - Urban Indians: A 'New' Chapter
Central Library, Meeting Room 1
presented by Dr. Patty Loew
Dr. Patty Loew, author of the top-selling Society Press book Indian Nations of Wisconsin, will share the cultural stories and history of Wisconsin Indians living in urban areas, including Milwaukee--a growing population that led Loew to add the chapter "Urban Indians" to the second printing of the book in 2013. She will also share some of the histories of endurance and renewal from Wisconsin's 12 Indian nations. [View title at WHS Press website] [View title in CountyCat]

2:00 p.m. - Discover the Roots of Your Family Tree and Local History
Central Library, Meeting Room 1
presented by Lori Bessler, Society Reference Librarian, and Michael Doylen, Archives Department Head of the Milwaukee Area Research Center (ARC)
The Society houses one of the nation's greatest genealogical and history collections. In this two-part session, the presenters will discuss how to research your local and family history using the Society's collections in Madison and throughout the state at the ARCs. Both presenters will be available to answer audience questions.
