Autism Acceptance Month
“Different, not less.” Dr. Temple Grandin, Scientist and Autism Advocate.
One in 54 American children are diagnosed with autism. The range and severity of symptoms vary widely, and each individual’s experience is unique. Chances are you know someone on the spectrum. Take some time this April to learn a little more about autism through books selected by Milwaukee Public Library librarians.
You can also learn more from the Autism Society of Southeastern Wisconsin (ASSEW) at 414-988-1260. The ASSEW offers resources and guidance for individuals with autism spectrum disorder and their families. These resources include, but are not limited to:
- New to Autism Workshop designed for parents whose children have recently been diagnosed with autism.
- Nuevo en el autismo también se presenta en español y es un programa comunitario gratis. Para más información acerca de este taller o para registrarse, contacte a Daysi Jiménez en 414-988-1273 o Daysi@assew.org
- New to Autism Kit containing Wisconsin-specific information on accessing services, fact sheets, and more.
- Comprehensive Resource Directory of service providers for autism spectrum disorder, local resources, and related services.
Please consult your child's pediatrician immediately with any concerns regarding your child's development.
