LibraryCorps
The Milwaukee Public Library LibraryCorps Program helps young people develop a love of reading, increase information literacy skills, and establish relationships that bridge the gap between in- and out-of-school learning. We help Milwaukee students develop 21st-century skills and connect with library resources to cultivate a city of lifelong learners.
How MPL LibraryCorps Serves
MPL LibraryCorps members are mentors who serve in full-time or part-time positions to foster developmental relationships in three distinct settings:
MPL LibraryCorps members are placed in schools throughout Milwaukee during the school day to:
Engage students in dynamic activities that support Information & Technology Literacy standards and connect students with library resources
Develop relationships with students to support social and emotional learning (SEL)
After school, MPL LibraryCorps members are placed in Milwaukee Public Library branches to:
Facilitate access to technology, including computers and other electronics available in the Makerspaces
Provide students with homework help and academic support
Foster student exploration of interests and skill development through book-based and STEAM opportunities
In the summer, MPL LibraryCorps members visit youth-serving organizations to support summer learning and continue building relationships that:
Engage young people in recreational reading
Facilitate student-centered, interest-based activities
Explore in-demand career pathways
