RIP, Eric Hill

By Tim R on Jun 11, 2014 8:55 AM

It is always sad when a beloved author passes away, but it stings all the more when it was an author we read as a child. Just yesterday, it was announced that Eric Hill, author of the Spot the Dog series had passed away at the age of 82. Spot the Dog has been a fundamental part of many children's journeys toward life-long learning and reading. Indeed, this particular librarian has fond memories of poring over Spot books as a tiny child, studying each page like it held the secrets of the universe. It was the first step on a long road that led me to being a librarian here in the Milwaukee Public Library System, and that might never have happened without Mr. Hill's work and especially Spot the Dog.

So why not stop by your local library today to take a look at your old friend Spot the Dog? Or better yet, bring in your new generation of Super Readers and introduce them to Spot.
