Hispanic Poets in Wisconsin
The publication this month of I Didn't Know There Were Latinos in Wisconsin: Three Decades of Hispanic Writing by Cowfeather Press is an excellent opportunity to focus on Wisconsin's Hispanic poets. Oscar Mireles, the editor of this latest anthology, also put together two earlier anthologies on the "I Didn't Know..." theme, both of which are available at MPL. The new anthology will be joining them our our shelves soon.
- I Didn’t Know There Were Latinos in Wisconsin: 20 Hispanic Poets (Focus Communications,1989)
- I Didn’t Know There Were Latinos in Wisconsin: 30 Hispanic Writers (Focus Communications, 1999)
MPL also makes available for checkout Mireles' solo collection Second Generation.
Work by 2010-2012 Milwaukee Poet Laureate Brenda Cárdenas appears in the new anthology. Check out one of her books from your Milwaukee Public Library. If the anthologies whet your appetite for more poetry by Wisconsin's Hispanic authors, in addition to the authors mentioned already, try the book-length works of the following authors, who also have pieces in the "I Didn't Know..." anthologies:
- Daisy Cubias
- Jackie Detloff
