By Jennifer H on Sep 22, 2014 11:55 PM

Tippecanoe Library has three great ways to celebrate Banned Books Week, September 21 - 28.

Teen Book Art and Censored Poetry Program,  Monday, Sept.22, 3:30 – 4:30pm

Try "upcycling" old books into a phone case, wallet, bracelet or bookmark. Design a new book cover or create censored poetry and celebrate the written word. Grades 6 – 12.

Check out a Banned Book and Get a Prize

Check out a banned book from our display and show the librarian your receipt to get a prize Sept. 21 – 28th.

Take a Banned Book “Mug Shot”

Choose a banned book from our display. Talk to the librarian to use the library camera, or use your phone, hold up the “Caught Reading Banned Books” sign and snap a photo. Fill out the Model Release Form (for both adults and children) and give it to the librarian. If using your phone, email the picture to jlhron@milwaukee.gov to submit it. Only photos with signed releases will be used on our social media sites. Check out the MPL blog, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to see the photos.

Show your support for freedom of speech and great literature by celebrating Banned Books Week September 21 - 28.
