Read. Discuss. Create. Inaugural Meeting of the MPL Book to Art Club @ the East Branch!

By Beth G on May 21, 2015 4:59 PM

I've always been a little jealous of the crafts kiddos get to create during story time.  These hands on projects help kids grasp the themes and content of the stories and I've always wondered why we don't offer adults the same opportunity when discussing literature.

Now, I'm definitely not an artist, but there is something utterly satisfying in coloring, cutting, and pasting, especially when you don't usually have an opportunity to create in your every day, grown up life.  No wonder adult coloring books are topping the best selling lists of major online retailers!

There's no need to rush out and buy a coloring book!  Thankfully there is the Library as Incubator Project's Book to Art Club program!  The MPL East Branch is the first Milwaukee member of a growing community of online book clubs that use hands-on crafting as a way to help adults engage with the written word.

So, get ready for some gluing!  Fellow MPL Librarian Kristina and I have read the book and gathered materials to create vintage inspired post cards while we lead a discussion of Maria Semple's Where'd You Go, Bernadette.

The inaugural meeting of MPL's Book to Art Club is 6pm, Tuesday May 26th at the East Branch.

Follow the MPL Book to Art Club Pinterest board for additional inspiration and ideas.
