MPL Branch History: Martin Luther King

Preceded by several branches on Milwaukee's north side, the Martin Luther King Branch, originally named the Locust Library, opened in 1971. The Locust Library was renamed the Martin Luther King Library in 1973. In 2014, MPL began the process of replacing the dated M.L. King Branch. Moody Nolan has been selected to design the new library, which holds an expected completion in 2023.

MPL Branch History: Villard Square

Villard Square is the second branch featured in the MPL Branch History series. In 1898, Wisconsin Free Library Commission librarian Miss L. E. Stearns presented the village of North Milwaukee with a plan to establish its own library. Shortly after her visit, the library opened in what is believed to be the home of librarian Anna Grace Godfrey and her parents.

Doors Open to Historic Milwaukee
