Henry David Thoreau - Plaque Dedication in Milwaukee 9/27

By Heather S on Sep 12, 2014 11:05 AM

On June 27th 1861, Henry David Thoreau and his traveling companion, Horace Mann, Jr., arrived in Milwaukee by train. They stayed one night at the Lake House Hotel on Ferry and Lake Streets, site of today's Colectivo Coffee. In the morning they boarded the Edith, a steamer bound for Mackinac Island, where they conducted botanical studies for four days.

In 2014, Colectivo Coffee has sponsored the placement of a plaque that honors Henry David Thoreau and recognizes his influence on M. Gandhi and M. L. King.

Date: Saturday, September 27th
Time: 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Location: Colectivo Coffee, 170 S. 1st Street, Milwaukee

Join Colectivo Coffee along with Milwaukee Poet Laureate Jeff Poniewaz and other Milwaukee poets, artists and performers as they celebrate and dedicate this plaque with stories and song. With presentations by:

Jeff Poniewaz

Gary Halvorsen
Bonnie Halvorsen

Susie Krause
Harvey Taylor
Christina Zawadiwsky
Leslie Hinich Cochran
& others
