Please join us at the Martin Luther King Branch for an interactive learning session which will enhance the viewing of Renaissance Theaterworks’ production of The Ballad of Emmett Till. The session is recommended for children in grades 8-12.

Synopsis:

In the summer of 1955, fourteen-year-old Emmett Till made the journey from Chicago to Money, Mississippi, deep in the Jim Crow South. Two weeks later, his broken and mutilated body was discovered in the Tallahatchie River. Shock and outrage over Till’s kidnapping and brutal murder ignited the Civil Rights Movement and changed our country forever.

Using contemporary prose, jazz, and gospel music, Bayeza has written a celebration of Emmett Till’s life and a tribute to his legacy in American history.
